Mobile trend evolution

SOME 15 years ago, when only a handful of people had handphones, the gadget was nothing more than just a basic communication tool.

One could just make and receive phone calls and practically do nothing else with the gadget.

However, today, the handphone is capable of doing so much more that it is classified according to its most prominent feature.

Hence, the plethora of camera phones, music phones, smartphones, and GPS (global positioning system)-enabled phones.

And today, when one wants to purchase a handphone, the retail assistant is likely to ask customers which application they need most in the phone. All handphone manufacturers such as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, and smartphone/PDA manufacturers like O2 and Dopod have handphones of various functionalities.

With their very own strategies, handphone manufacturers have come to understand their target segment better and making specific handphones to meet those needs. Hence, the high-end, the mid-end, as well as entry-level models to cater to budgets as well as the need for specific applications in the phones.
