Speaking to reporters at PKR headquarters here, Johari said he was told by a close friend to accompany him to Flamingo Hotel in Ampang to meet former Melaka chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah.
Shortly afterwards, Rahim and Shazryl held another press conference, admitting his involvement and confirming Johari's story. He also named another individual by the name of Shuib Lazim, treasurer of right-wing UMNO offshoot Perkasa, saying the nickname "Dato T" referred to the trio.
Rahim, a former UMNO vice-president, served as Melaka's CM from 1982-1994, and fell from grace following revelation that he had illicit sex with a minor. Shazryl, who according to Johari is the man claiming to be 'Dato T', was the honorary Malaysian consul to Thailand.
