The Importance of Bandwidth Management

Better bandwidth with traffic shaping

Bandwidth is vital to companies that are players in 21st century global economy. How can companies leverage on existing bandwidth without compromising speed and without incurring crippling expenses related to additional bandwidth?

Packeteer is known for its PacketShaper appliance but the concept of traffic shaping did not exist until the mid 90s. What does a traffic shaper do and how does traffic shaping benefit end users?

A traffic shaper is a device that optimises data that moves across a network. The data is classified and then compressed before being sent swiftly across. Traffic shapers serve a vital purpose in today's wide area network (WAN) dependent enterprise because it allows companies to allocate precious (and expensive) bandwidth to key applications that are most critical to the businesses.

Traffic shapers benefit end users by ensuring that the applications needed to complete tasks and achieve goals have the bandwidth to be delivered with speed and without lost data or other transfer issues.

Those are reviewed done by The Star today. Actually I just want to share my exprience installing and managing this bandwidth management product.

I have installed this packteer for my organization. It's good product to manage and control our bandwidth utilization. It support up to layer 7 management. We can manage the bandwidth policy for manual QoS for our organization. My organization subscribe 34Mbps leased line, and I can easily dedicate how much I want just for own connection to the internet and let the others sharing the main bandwitdh. But I just don't to missused the facilities that I control.
